Facts about working in the Netherlands

1.

More bikes than people

There are more bicycles riding around in the Netherlands than there are inhabitants. There are over 23 million bicycles and just over 17 million people. The bicycle is the most widely used means of transport, whether you are going to the supermarket, the train station or your work. Did you know that you can also borrow a bike through Want 2 Work?

2.

Everyone speaks a little English

The Dutch are known for their excellent language skills. The country is among the top three worldwide when it comes to English as a second language. This makes it easy to talk to colleagues, even if you do not yet speak Dutch. At Want 2 Work, we are happy to help you learn the language better step by step.

3.

The Netherlands is the gateway to Europe

With the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands is one of Europe's major logistics hubs. It is therefore no surprise that many jobs can be found in logistics through Want 2 Work. This is where the heart of European trade beats.

4.

Lunch together with bread

Dutch lunch is usually simple. Sandwiches with cheese, ham or peanut butter, accompanied by a glass of milk or juice. Not a hot meal, but a cosy moment to relax and catch up with colleagues.

5.

Waterland with dykes and windmills

About a third of the Netherlands is below sea level. Thanks to clever waterworks such as dykes, locks and pumping stations, the country stays dry. This is something the Dutch are proud of, just as well organised as many logistics processes you might be involved in.

6.

Dutch love honesty

Openness is part of Dutch culture. People say what they think, in a direct but well-meaning way. That can take some getting used to, but it provides clarity. So you always know where you stand, just like at Want 2 Work.
